Hi Friends!
What would you like to know about orchestra audition procedures in Europe? Are there specific orchestras that you'd like to know more about or that you're thinking about auditioning for? Are there teachers or conductors you would like to me to interview?
Here are some questions that I came up with.
- What do you do to prepare for an audition?
- For which orchestras have you auditioned?
- What audition system did the orchestra follow?
- What makes a successful audition? Unsuccessful audition?
- Why do orchestras hold auditions?
- How is the orchestral job changing, if at all?
Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading!
Hi Julie! I'm curious about the lengths of audition lists for European orchestras and whether finalists are given trial periods in the orchestra before the winner is chosen.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your project!

Hey julie!
ReplyDeleteI am curious to know the difference between audition procedures from here in New Zealand and Australia to UK / Europe.
Are they screened like they are here?
Do the panel make suggestions or ask you to play excerpts in different styles/interpretations?
What do the players prefer, screened or completely live?
Do they even differ between countries in Europe?
Does it vary between instruments?
I will share my experiences from a few auditions I am planning to do in UK when I get back in a few weeks.
Good luck for your upcoming masterclasses with Zurich Opera, I look forward to hearing about the experience!
