About Julie Ann Link

Julie Ann Link (b. March 1987) is a graduate student studying music at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künst in Zürich, Switzerland with bassoonist, Matthias Racz.  As a 2011-2012 Fulbright Fellow, her project focuses on further understanding American and European orchestral audition systems.

Originally from Texas, Link holds degrees in bassoon performance from Arizona State University and the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with teachers Barrick Stees, Albie Micklich, and Jeffrey Lyman.

In summer 2011, Link performed with Maestro Lorin Maazel at the Castleton Music Festival in Washington, D.C.  Before moving to Zürich, Link was the second bassoonist with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra.  She is currently a member of the World Symphony Orchestra of Valencia, Spain.

Link's solo music awards include grand prize winner of the Arizona State Concerto Competition, grand prize winner of the Yamaha Performing Artists Competition, and two-time prize winner for the International Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition.  She attended the Interlochen Advanced Bassoon Institute in Interlochen, Michigan and the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic.  Link was recognized for musical excellence at the Cleveland Institute with the George F. Goslee Bassoon Award and a special radio interview with WCLV President Robert Conrad.  She was acknowledged during her studies at Arizona State with the Special Talent Award and the Miles Dresskell Symphony Orchestra Memorial Award.

Link hopes to complete her Masters studies in Zürich in June 2013.   Her blog, julieannlink.blogspot.com, offers individuals information about performance standards and expectations for audition processes used by orchestras in Europe.
